Detroit.  Where people sing the blues. Where a young Aretha Franklin stepped up to a microphone and found respect. Where Spin Magazine declared, “No other city in the world has cranked out more revolutionary music.”  Where Eminem first took to a stage and battled his way to the top.  Where Iggy met his Stooges.  Where Gladys met her Pips.  Where the first sounds of garage rock were heard.  Where the husband and wife team of Jack and Meg White reminded the world what rock music was all about.  Where acts ranging from John Lee Hooker and Alice Cooper to The Winans and Marcus Belgrave have called home.  Where the motor city five, better known as the MC5 first played.  Where George Clinton dyed his dreads and hit the stage as Parliament Funkadelic.  Where the material girl got most of her material.  Where The Belleville Three laid down the first beats to what would forever be known as house music.  Where people sing gospel, rock, R&B, hip-hop, rap, pop, and yes, the blues.

Detroit.  Where people get shot everyday. Where screenwriters regularly send their characters as punishment.  Where Hollywood once turned for scenes of post-apocalyptic destruction.  Where a 42% tax incentive has spurred the growth of film crews, studios and production facilities to support filmmaking in Detroit.  Where over 100 movies have been filmed in the past
18 months.  Where Clint Eastwood decided to cast and shoot his award-winning film Gran Torino.  Where the L.A. Times calls, “an enigmatic city fueled by creativity.” Where Hillary Swank, Michael Cera, Ray Liotta, Val Kilmer, Sigourney Weaver, George Clooney, Drew Barrymore and Mickey Rourke, to name just a few, have all completed films in the past year.  Where directors go for scenes of culturally diverse neighborhoods, bustling downtown areas and urban waterfronts.  Where, as this ad is being written, no less than 11 productions are rolling film in the city.  Where people get shot everyday.
